The CW Fall Schedule: ‘The Flash’ to Tuesday, ‘Jane the Virgin’ on Monday, more

I’m just going to link to the CW schedule without much comment. Basically, the next show that I watch on the CW (not including Whose Line is It Anyway?) will be the first show on the CW that I watch.

CBS 2014-2015 Schedule: One Hour of Comedy on Monday, ‘CSI’ to Sunday’, ‘N?CIS: New Orleans’ to Tuesday, ‘Two and a Half Men’ to End, Lots More

Today was the day for CBS to unvail their schedule for the upcoming 2014-2015 broadcast season.

In many ways, CBS was the most interesting network to speculate on. How would they handle the schedule factoring in Thursday night football for 6 weeks? How would they deal with having renewed so many shows but also picking up so many pilots to series? How many hours of comedy would they have next season?

NBC 2014-2015 Fall Schedule ‘Must See TV’ is Dead

I’m going to Link to the 2014-2015 NBC schedule but present it without much comment.

I just don’t feel compelled to speculate about these fall schedules because most of the shows that are scheduled to air won’t see a season 2 and a few won’t even make it all the way through season 1 before getting pulled. Shows that get hyped in May and pulled in October are more the rule than the exception. I remember last May that there was talk of whether or not ‘The Michael J. Fox show’ could pull a better rating than its CBS Competition ‘Two and a Half Men’. That talk died out by week two of the season and MJF was gone from the schedule entirely shortly into the new year. So you just never know how these things will work out.

ABC Renews ‘Last Man Standing’ Picks Up 2 Pilots, NBC Cancels ‘Dracula’

There were some complex and intense negotiations going on between ABC and 20th Century TV. In play were 2 pilots and the return of ‘Last Man Standing’ for a 4th season. Well, the deal is done and ABC has ordered ‘Cristela’ and ‘Fresh off the Boat’ to series. ‘Last Man Standing’ by getting a 4th season will be more attractive for sale in to syndication.

Meanwhile, NBC has canceled ‘Dracula’ and the fate of ‘Parenthood’ is still up in the air. I believe that out of all the shows that were on the 2013-2014 schedule, the only one to not be either renewed or canceled for next season is ‘Parenthood’.

CBS renews ‘The Mentalist’, Cancels Several Others

The list of shows on the 2013-2014 Fall Schedule with unknown fates is getting shorter and shorter. In a move that comes as a little bit of a surprise CBS has given a 7th season order to ‘The Mentalist’.

The network has also canceled: ‘Bad Teacher’, ‘The Crazy Ones’, ‘Friends with Better Lives’, ‘Hostages’, and ‘Intelligence’.

There is talk that ‘The Mentalist’ got a 13 episode order to make season 7 its last. Time will tell if that ends up being the case. Similar rumors were floating around earlier this year regarding ‘Two and a Half Men’. We might know more when CBS unvails its fall schedule next week.

CBS Picks Up ‘CSI: Cyber’

You know, I don’t usually get too much into the game of following pilots and trying to predict which ones will get picked up and where they might end up on the schedule. I really only concern myself with shows once they’ve been ordered to series.

However, even though it is yet another ‘CSI’ spinoff, I was intrigued by ‘CSI: Cyber’ because Cyber Crime is something I’m really interested in as a result of knowing Mark Danger all these years. This is the 6th drama to get an order from CBS for next season. I expect a couple of those will be short season orders in the vain of ‘Hostages’ and ‘Intelligence’ this year.

The Middle, Modern Family and the Goldbergs Renewed by ABC, Trophy Wife and Mixology Canceled

When I wrote my TV post last night, I linked to articles concerning some ABC drama renewals.

They also made some decisions on the comedy side. The Middle got a sixth season. So did Modern Family. Last Man Standing is also expected to be back for a season 4. While The Goldbergs was renewed for a second season.

The news wasn’t so good for Trophy Wife and Mixology which were both canceled by the network.

Those comedies that were renewed will be joining returning dramas: ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’, ‘Castle’, ‘Grey’s Anatomy’, ‘Once Upon a Time’, ‘Resurrection’, ‘Revenge’, and ‘Scandal’ on next season’s schedule.

News and Notes from the TV World: Renewals and Cancelations, Pilots ordered to Series, DVDs of Iconic ’70s Sitcoms coming, ‘Better Call Saul’, ‘Seinfeld’, and more

I did pretty well with this last night, so thought I’d take another crack at it. Here are some links to stories from the world of television.

First, and the one that interests me the most, ‘Welcome Back Kotter – The Complete Series’ is coming to DVD in late august! It will be released by Shout! Factory.

In other Shout! Factory news, The studio is working on a series set for ‘WKRP in Cincinnati’. I’ll buy them both!
