Still Time to Get in On the Madness

It is not too late to enter the Combat Hooligans March Madness pool. You have until the games start tomorrow to head over to Yahoo and fill out a bracket. We’ve got 9 players so far but round numbers are better.

The winner of the pool will have Ric Gillespie perminently erased from their memory. The loser will have to switch bodies with Ric Gillespie for a year. So the stakes are high!

Go to and click on “find a pool” then click on “join private pool” and enter the following information:

group ID=63202 and password=sheikybaby.

Configure your settings and fill in the entire bracket before the start of the games tomorrow. Good luck to all, except Euan.

Join the Combat Hooligans Tournament Pick’em Challenge

The NCAA College Basketball tournament begins next week. As is our tradition going back to 2007, we’ve set up a March Madness tournament challenge group in which you can participate. You’ll all want to take part in this year’s event because you’ll need to see if our own Euan Taylor can redeem himself after last year’s embarrassment. Last year, Euan, the man who sets up all of these groups, forgot to make his own picks and thus earned an amazing 0 points. Can he repeat that feet this year? Of course he can but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt and say that he won’t make that mistake again. He may just forget to pick a champion like he did the first time we did this. Yeah, Euan kinda sucks, lol.

Anyway, here is how you join:

  • Go to
  • click on “find a pool”
  • click on “join a private pool”
  • When prompted, enter the group ID 63202
  • then enter the password ‘sheikybaby’
  • follow the next few steps and click “save” and you’re in
  • Then don’t forget to make your picks when the selections are announced tomorrow…Euan
  • </ol?

No cost to play and nothing if you win besides bragging rights.

Forbes Unvails 2014 List of the World’s 50 Most Valuable Sports Franchises

Forbes has released their annual ranking of the 50 most valuable sports teams in the world.

Out of the top 50 teams, 30 belong to the national football league. Only the Jacksonville Jaguars and Oakland Raiders failed to make the top 50 from the NFL. The Raiders were ranked in the top 50 in 2013 and were one of 3 franchises to fall off the list this year.

The Real Reason the Portland Trail Blazers Lost Game Two of the Western Conference Semifinals

I didn’t watch any of the NBA Playoffs last night. So I didn’t see the San Antonio Spurs defeat the Portland Trail Blazers to take a 2-0 lead in their best of seven series.

Nevertheless, I know exactly why Portland lost and it had absolutely nothing to do with execution or poor strategy.

The Trail Blazers were defeated before the game even started. In fact, they were finished shortly after arriving at the AT&T Center.

    Update on Donald Sterling Punishment

The tweet that I used in my prior post on the Donald Sterling situation is inaccurate. That’s what I get for using NBC.

The real punishment is a lifetime ban from the NBA and a $2.5 million fine.

It was what had to be done. If you’re a player in the NBA and especially if you’re an African American player in the NBA, there is no way that you would want to play for Donald Sterling at this point. Doc Rivers doesn’t want to coach for the man and who can blame him? He could go to court to try and fight the ban but let us all hope that he does the smart thing and just sells the team and slinks off under the rock from under which he crawled out.

NBA Hands Out Punishment to Donald Sterling, being forced to watch Clippers games from the 1980’s not included…

The NBA has handed down punishment to Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling for some racist comments he made in an audio recording that surfaced on TMZ last week.

A $5 million fine is pretty hefty for sure but Sterling can afford it. Honestly, compiling a documentary of stupid draft picks made by the Clippers during his tenure as owner and tossing in idiotic trades as well should have also been included.

This new comes after several sponsors have ended their association with the team. Also, the NAACP decided against giving Sterling a second lifetime achievement award for some reason.

Editor’s Note: The tweet sited above has the punishment wrong. We apologize for the error of using it and here is an updated version of our story with the correct information.

Donald Sterling is the Worst Owner in Sports

That’s not exactly news. Neither is the audio of him supposedly making racist statements to his girlfriend as posted by TMZ. You don’t need to dig far back in to his past to know what he really stands for.

The players on the Clippers staged a silent protest before their game 4 matchup against the Golden State Warriors.

That’s exactly what they did. Donald Sterling is indeed the worst owner in sports and he’s so bad that he probably takes second through fifth place as well.

Yesterday’s Iron Sheik Tweet of the Day would have been…

I know there wasn’t an Iron Sheik tweet of the day yesterday. The mass suicides that have happened all around the world as a result are surely going to keep me awake 2 maybe 3 extra minutes tonight.

My Biggest NBA Question Right Now Is This…

I just finished filling out a survey sent to me because I am a current subscriber to NBA League Pass. The survey got me to thinking about my experience with League Pass this season. The fact is that my biggest NBA question right now is if I should even renew my subscription for next year.

March Madness Bracket entrant screws himself by not picking champion

Corey’s Champion Bracket seems to be anything but, since “Corey” or whomever did this bracket pictured above DIDN’T PICK A WINNER of the entire tournament! That’s too bad considering that this bracket not only predicted a Connecticut/Kentucky final match, but is also ranked tied at 4th in the Quicken Loans Billion Dollar Bracket Challenge.

Funny Quote from Andrew Wiggins about College

So Kansas freshman Basketball player Andrew Wiggins has declared himself for the 2014 NBA draft. That is hardly news as it has been expected all year. But Wiggins offered a tremendous quote about college which is expressed in this tweet from San Francisco Chronicle Sports Writer Vic Tafur.

I agree, colleges should really try to fix this problem. I think, and this is a radical idea, that they should consider becoming 4-year institutions instead of 1-and-done schools.

Rodman appears at Legends of Basketball event no different than usual

Over the weekend, Dennis Rodman appeared at the Legends of Basketball event in Argentina dressed in the get-up you see above…. yeah, not really shocking if you’re familiar with Rodman’s flamboyant M.O., looks like he got a standing-o when he came out on the court during intros.
